This isn't superhero au, just found family one with a lot of comic metaphors (that Maverick doesn't understand) because Jake and Bob are nerds in this.

Rooster takes a few steps closer to the showers before meeting Jake’s eyes in the mirror again.

Jake flies the mission instead of Maverick and takes the hit meant for Bradley. The two pilots find themselves stranded in enemy territory battling against the willderness and, in Jake's case, a bullet wound from the guns of a fifth gen fighter. It's the worst possible time for Bradley to realize just how deep his feelings for Jake really run.

“For decoration, obviously,” Jake replies, mocking. It’s the last in the box he keeps in his locker as an easy means of refueling pre or post hop, but Bradshaw needn’t know all that. “I had extra and don’t like that flavor anyway.”

Summary
Opening the door, Bradley went slow and stepped away when he felt something pushing against the base. The porch light spilled over the body sprawled across his threshold. Surprise kept him still for a moment until recognition made him move.
“Hangman. Jake. What the fuck?” Bradley asked, thumping down to one knee as he helped Jake up from where he’d fallen when the door didn’t stabilize him anymore.
There was blood. Swelling covered his face and hands that would bruise sooner rather than later. His torn khakis were covered in dirt and smelled like rotten trash. Half of his ribbons had been ripped off. None of the blood or smears of whatever Bradley didn’t want to know about had dried, so the fight couldn’t have happened too long before.
