Jack watched two dogs across the street sniff each other warily while their owners struck up a friendly chat. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Jake watching him.
“And the therapy helps?” Jake asked, quietly.
Jack nodded, softly. It felt like a lie. Nothing could help, not really. It didn’t bring Elise back. It didn’t fix his leg. The therapy just kept Jack alive long enough to find something else worth living for. Short of ridding the world of violence, therapy was the best thing he could recommend to this kid.

It doesn’t take long for two things to become clear to him. One, the calvary’s not coming. Two: he can’t hold out for much longer. The blood bag is taunting him. So he has to get out, and he has to get out now. There’s only one card left to play for him.
Prayer’s not unusual in here. He sees it directed at the alpha vamp all the time, even when there’s no psychic link happening. So when Dean bows his head, closes his eyes, and starts speaking out loud to someone who isn’t there—no one bats an eye.
“Cas, I hope you’re listening.”
(Or: after the vision of the alpha vampire, instead of unleashing the other vampires from the cages on Dean, he gets to join them.)
