Neal attempts to take a step towards Peter and stumbles. Peter quickly reaches out to catch him. “Neal? Neal? Answer me, please!”

What he had trouble with was seeing Merlin -clumsy, gangly, grinning Merlin- as anything more than a faltering servant. That is, until Emrys shows him otherwise.

Or the public only knew Brucie Wayne and Ollie Queen as charming, ditzy, and completely harmless. They both worked very hard to make sure of that.
A Survivor-style reality show seemed like a fine place to keep up appearances. It was not. The thing lurking underneath the show's polished surface turned out to be neither scripted nor survivable by ordinary people.
Good thing neither of them are ordinary people.
Bad thing, the cameras are still rolling and feelings are for sure getting caught.
