Caitlyn wiped a patch of the mirror clear of the steam that had encompassed the bathroom. It dripped down the glass and for a moment, Cait was entranced. Her mind felt like a cave collapsing since her talk with Vi and it was an hour later now and she still hadn’t returned home. At this point Caitlyn was so torn between anger and fear for Vi that she felt ready to fight something: the battle was over though and there was nothing left to fight. The muscles around her blind eye spasmed painfully and she watched the way the muscles writhed momentarily under the scarred skin. Vi used to be the only one who told her that she was stunning even after she’d lost her eye. Vi hadn’t been saying much of anything to Caitlyn though lately and she’d returned to her own ways of thinking.

It's been nearly a year since Caitlyn's mother unexpectedly passed, and she's still learning how to live without her mom. The year she's spent doing a one-eighty and quitting school, moving to Zaun, and shunning any meaningful connection has proved nothing but how desperately lonely she is, and how utterly without purpose her life has become, or maybe always was.
When the two lonely women cross paths, it opens the door to a connection deeper than either intended and speed runs them into something more meaningful than they’ve ever experienced before.
