Summary
Shane lifted his head to meet the gaze of the man who was sitting almost too casually on the steps outside of his dorm building. The blue eyes he found studying him sent chills down his spine. The man on the steps was leaning back, his forearms pressed to the cement behind him. His face was framed with golden curls, which Shane could tell had been in and out of a hat all day. Their eyes met for a brief moment before Shane dropped his head back down to his feet.
Everything about this man screamed sex appeal, and that was bad for Shane.
Or: Shane is a D1 baseball player at UCLA, Ilya is an exchange student from Russia, and they're both psychology majors who live in the same dorm building.

Summary
Shane had researched many flowers and plants that were native to Russia, and he had settled on two different ones, the fern leaf peony, and chamomile, which is Russia's national flower. He had placed the peony root, and chamomile seeds carefully into a shoebox on the passenger seat next to him, as he drove in silence.
He thought that maybe he was doing too much, that he was overstepping. But he would have to wait until the summer to find out.

Ilya sat straight up after falling, and he looked to his immediate left, seeing the motionless body sprawled out on the ice. It didn’t register to him right away, though it should have. Then, he noticed the blood, a small pool starting to form under Shane’s head. No. no no no nonononono. He glanced down at his skates, noticing a small trace of blood on the tip of his right blade. He felt like he was going to puke.

Never feel anything ever again. It wasn't the soothing thought it ought to be. Despite the fact that he should know better, Andrew would choose Neil. Neil and these horrible emotions his all-too human heart finally deigned to inflict upon him.
