Summary
Yoonchae is seventeen, tired, and honestly not sure what she’s doing with her life anymore. Most days are spent alone in her house, avoiding school whenever she can, making unfinished songs at three in the morning, and pretending she’s okay for the sake of her dad—the only person she really has left after losing her mother years ago.
She tells herself she prefers being alone. It’s easier that way.
But things start to shift when she’s forced into becoming a student tutor and ends up meeting Megan Skiendel, a pink-haired girl who talks too much, asks intrusive questions, and somehow acts like they’ve known each other forever. Megan is weird, unpredictable, and impossible to ignore.
Yoonchae slowly begins to realize that maybe life doesn’t have to feel so unbearably heavy all the time—and maybe letting someone in isn’t as terrifying as she thought.

Yoonchae hopes that she never gets used to the way Megan’s lips feel against her, hopes that the artificial cherry-sweet flavor and tackiness never fades. Vi ignored him as movement outside the window caught her eye and she leaned over to see what it was. Her neighbor looked up, their eyes meeting for a brief second. A scowl appeared on the young woman’s face and Vi quickly moved away from the window and took her seat again at the drumset.
“Fuck me,” she mumbled.
Ever since her neighbor had moved in a couple of months ago, it had been nothing but complaint, complaint, complaint. She hated Vi’s music, she hated her friends. She hated the way Vi’s cooking smelled (when she had the misfortune of burning it once or twice). Megan’s chest was rising and falling, doing her best to catch her breath, under the ridiculous t-shirt she’d worn to rehearsals today—it was the one she’d been given during their tour by a fan in Boston, the words Titty Garden printed across the black fabric in blocky yellow font. If they hadn’t been on stage, the sip of water she’d just taken would’ve been snorted through her nose. Now, though, as she does her best not to gulp at the look Megan’s currently giving her, joking about it feels irrelevant.

Megan laughs under her breath at that, tilting her head to brush her nose against Yoonchae’s. “Aww, are you a little jealous?” she teases her, watching closely.
