A small smile pulls at the corner of the nurse’s lips as she writes. “Ah, you must be the boyfriend.”
Will stares at her, frozen. Maybe he misheard her. Maybe she said boy friend, as in, a boy who is a friend. Maybe— “What?”
“He hasn’t stopped talking about you. I think all the nurses on the ward know your name by now,” she says, smile turning into a grin as she looks up from the clipboard. “He’s a chatty one, isn’t he?”
Being in a secret relationship is surprisingly easy, until Mike gets his wisdom teeth removed.

Will groans with dread, “Ugh, I don’t know.”
“I’ll help you,” Mike offers, and he means it. His smile is sincere. “I’ll help you navigate and keep track so there’s no, like— overlapping.”
His best friend turns his head, meeting his eyes as he curls his brows. “You’d do that for me?”
“I’d literally do anything for you, Will— you know that.”
Will huffs out a small giggle.
“We can, like— try different approaches and practices, test out the theories of dating and love...” Mike pauses to laugh schemingly. “This could be a fun experiment.”
“Experiment?”

Two guys are pining over Will at NYU - Mike helps Will navigate the love triangle using the theories of psychology, while gradually falling for Will himself.

Summary
He wonders sometimes: does Mike feel it, too? This… urge to be something more than they are, the thing they toe the line of being? And no, Will isn't stupid, isn't delusional, he knows that they're not like that, but he thinks that sometimes, they could be, and it hurts deep in his chest.
Occasionally he thinks he sees that same longing in Mikes eyes; in the quiet moments they have sometimes, when silence swallows sound and want swallows should, and they end up close enough to not just feel each other, but to exist with one another, wordless and undefined, pinky fingers brushing and chests rising and falling in sync.
Mike's laughter fades and his gaze falters, flickers below Will's eyes and below his nose. His eyes are heavy all of a sudden - Will feels them drag across his features, burning him, melting him, looking at him like he means something special. If they weren't so close, Will wouldn't hear how Mike's breath catches a little (but they are close, so he does). Wouldn't see his shoulders slump or his eyes flutter half-closed, darken, or his face dip an infinitesimal amount closer to Will's.
Like he wants to kiss him. Maybe as much as Will wants to kiss him, too.

Summary
The thing is, Will hasn’t really had time to form an opinion about where he and Mike live because he’s been too distracted by the fact that he lives with Mike in the first place. After so many years of dating, hours of long-distance phone calls, miles and miles on highways and planes — they finally share a bed every single night. Will’s belongings finally have permanent residence in the drawers beside Mike’s.
The thing is, Will would go anywhere with Mike.
