It’s not helping, and he’s usually here. John B is always by his side when he gets like this, always there to talk softly and shove JJ’s head between his knees. He told JJ once that it’s supposed to calm his heart rate, and magically it does. Anything John B says is automatically truth to JJ. John B could tell him the sky is green and the ocean is yellow, and somehow JJ would find a way to make it true. But he can’t think about it right now, because all he can do is think left behind when John B’s name crosses his mind.

The pogues leave John B to find his dad. JJ doesn't know why they would do that. Naturally, he flips his shit.

“Oh, he thinks he’s funny,” the partner said from the front seat. “Well, we’ll see what you say once we’re down at the station, King Tut.”
He bristled at the comparison. That joke had stopped being funny four thousand years ago.

Reaching for someone’s arm or hand had a calming effect on him. He was able to feel their warmth, feel that they were there. And being allowed to grab onto them whenever his anxiety spiked was just another way of saying that he was finally safe.

Ahkmenrah has a few ways (unhealthy and not) of dealing with his trauma. This fic focuses on one of the healthier methods.

Summary
In June, Kahmunrah finds out that Ahkmenrah does not remember how he died. This leads to Ahkmenrah getting cursed to relive his death every July 13th: the anniversary of when he died the first time.
But really, there was no need to tell Larry, right? It’s only once a year, and it doesn’t affect anyone but him…
What he didn’t know was that Kahmunrah put this spell on a few of the other exhibits as well as a form of psychological warfare.

Ahkmenrah came to life every night just like every other exhibit, yet he was so different from the others. He required sustenance, sleep. He was made of actual living tissue and died nightly. But he had also been abandoned and rejected time after time, starting with the departure and eventual death at the hands of his brother and including his neglect at the hands of those at Cambridge and the museum, so why did he think his new friends would be any different? Why did they all seem so eager to leave him in London?
