Summary
“What hurts the worst?”
He Xuan fights himself away from the brink. Breathing heavier, he considers his entire body and gives a helpless shake of his head.
“Point if you can’t speak.”
After another sluggish train of thought that really goes nowhere, He Xuan picks up his pointer finger and angles it toward the ribs on his right side. Shi Qingxuan takes his uninjured arm and lifts it so he can peer at the side. Cautiously, he presses a thumb to each rib in ascending order until He Xuan winces away.
“You might have a small fracture,” he says, letting He Xuan put his arm down. “Nothing I can do about that except wrap you up for a few days. And I couldn’t confirm without an X-Ray.” Shi Qingxuan tosses the bloody rag up onto the edge of the sink, carelessly. He also doesn’t seem to care that his knees are crouched in the overflowed water. Or that it’s past four am, and it’s surely already been a long graveyard shift at the hospital. “I would say to stay out of fights, but I know you well enough to know you’re not going to do that.”
He Xuan shrugs. Regrets it when a stitch of pain tightens in his chest.

The tremors grow. Her metal mixing bowl is almost falling off the rack.
“Are you fucking homophobic or what.”
It immediately stops. And then the metal mixing bowl throws itself off the rack.

When he is feeling particularly sadomasochistic, he pays Shi Qingxuan’s grave a visit. These, he remembers most distinctly.
He and the grave commune in silence: He Xuan glares, the grave is unmoved. In the third century, he glares, but he sweeps the plot of dirt too, especially when the heavens are wrapped up in one thing or another and no one else has stopped by in a while. In the fourth, he brings flowers. He doesn’t know anything about flowers. He resides over death, not the princesses of life. So he picks colorful, sprightly bouquets, ones he thinks Shi Qingxuan might’ve liked. In the fifth, he is struck by revelation: he glares with renewed intensity at the wooden marker erected over Shi Qingxuan’s grave, and he says, “Hello.”
He Xuan learns the interminable length of a lifetime.

Mo Xuanyu enacts the Soul Sacrifice ritual and succeeds.

Wei Wuxian has been resurrected, as was intended, but Mo Xuanyu is...also still there?
Now they're sharing a body, or at least trading off on using it, and it's pretty clear that something suspicious is going on. Hopefully, with both of them on the case, they can figure out what's happening without too many deaths, and then once that's done maybe Lan Wangji will help them get unstuck from each other. If, that is, they decide that's something they really want.

Jiang Cheng hums and settles a hand on his shoulder, a minute touch, warm and steady. Then he winds an arm around Huaisang’s waist and picks him up effortlessly like he weighs nothing: like he is exactly as hollow as he feels right this moment, on this balcony, under these stars.
“Come on,” says Jiang Cheng. “Let’s go to bed.”
