He had run away from a couple foster homes in the past, and he knew from experience that once someone made their mind up about running away, there was no stopping them. A wind blows through the cave, cooling the sweat on his face. He rolls over on his back, clouded eyes searching, half expecting to see Yan Hui’s face hovering above him like the previous month he had to undergo this. But she is not there. It is just an opening in the roof of the cave, allowing him a glimpse of the clear night sky, of the full moon. He wonders if Yan Hui is looking at the same moon right now, if she is thinking of him, if she is worried about how he is faring without her there to hold him.
She probably isn’t worried, not over him anyway. He isn't worth it.
