The supernatural really wanted to make sure Stiles couldn’t be happy. He sat down at his desk, figuring he could get some research done since his headache had been dulled thanks to magical werewolf healing powers. He sifted through the notes he had haphazardly thrown on his desk earlier this morning, his lips turning down into a frown. He really needed to have Lydia help him organize everything better. He pulled a few pages here and there, trying to remember where he had left off. One page caught his eye in particular. Scrawled over the copied paper in the margin was his own handwriting in blue ink.
Tell Derek
He stared dumbly down at his own handwriting, blinking several times, hoping with each blink the words would slowly disappear, ink seeping into paper, like it had never existed.
What the fuck did that mean?

He doesn’t do any of the things that Derek had predicted he’d do.
In fact, he doesn’t do anything at all when it comes to Derek.
Derek’s not used to having to make the first move and it terrifies him; even with his limited romantic experience with a few homicidal women, they usually just took what they wanted from him.
Derek’s never wanted anyone like he wants Stiles and every time he sees him lately, it’s like it gets a tiny bit worse.

Summary
Stiles would like to say, very clearly, that it really wasn’t his fault this time. He figured that some mild avoidance, and extensive procrastination, could perhaps keep the inevitable lecture from Derek to a minimum, if the whole thing was revealed in a calm manner and the thank you gift promised was reasonable, small and easily hidden. This whole plan went immediately out the window the second Stiles emerged from his shower to find a very shiny, very new, very small child sitting on the couch of his apartment. Stiles was pretty sure that the Seelie queen had gotten him a very real little girl as a thank you gift. She was definitely not small, easily hidden nor reasonable.
In which, overly thankful fairies cause confusion and happiness for both Stiles and Derek.

Derek has just finished scanning the board overhead and let his eyes drift back down to the guy just in time to see him bend down to pick up his backpack from the floor when the guy turns. There’s a moment of complete cessation of brain activity when Derek’s libido registers lips! Eyes! Skinnnnn! before his thoughts begin spinning like a Gravitron, turning his brain to paste against the inside of his skull because what the fuck, the guy he’s been quietly lusting over while he waits in line for coffee is fucking Stiles.

Stiles is pretty sure that soulmates aren't a real thing. Sue him, he's a romantic. Which means that he doesn't believe that love is predetermined by the stars, or the fates, or any bullshit like that. There's no way a magic spell exists that can order up love like it's a large pepperoni with extra mushrooms. Stiles thinks - no, he knows - that love is decision you make. One that you keep making, every day.
And even if soulmates were a real thing, he definitely wouldn't be Derek Hale's.
But on the off chance Derek does have a soulmate - someone out there who could finally make him happy in the way he deserves to be happy - Stiles might as well try the stupid spell. He's going to find whoever that is if it kills him.
