Presenting is not the sort of thing that happens all at once. It’s not like one minute you are nothing and the next you’re an Alpha, or an Omega. It’s more of a slow, gradual process. For some people, it can take up to a week.
Chay starts to feel feverish three days before his eighteenth birthday. Fever can mean anything, to be honest, even Betas sometimes present with fever. So he’s not super worried when he makes birthday plans with his friends. He could have ages before something happens, and it could be a Rut, which is shorter and more manageable. Or nothing at all!
(It’s not going to be a rut. Or nothing. Chay knows, deep in his bones, exactly what he is. But after his last encounter with an Alpha, it’s the last thing he wants to think about, so he simply doesn’t. He makes his plans and he pretends he isn’t waking up from hazy dreams, sweaty and hard.)

Summary
Technically, Sky and Prapai do not live together. This is not out of a lack of desire, but because Sky still has classes and exams and Prapai is not always available to drive him to those, so it makes more sense to stay at his dorm once in a while so he can walk instead of calling a cab. He still spends nearly every night in Prapai’s bed, in their bed, instead, but he doesn’t like to be there when Prapai isn’t. It feels lonelier than his dorm room, somehow, with all the reminders of Prapai everywhere.
So when Monday comes, Sky leaves his dorm room bright and early, and comes to a sudden, jerking stop at the exit.
