With every conscious step, the still-there muscles constricted painfully around what didn’t exist anymore, and what hadn’t existed for a very long time. It flared into his thigh, hitting his pelvis and traveled straight to his head in a dizzying rush of fucking ow. The sensation hardly ever let up, but the dull pang that steadied deep within his upper leg was soothed by the rhythmic motions of his hand massaging the five-year old gaping chasm within his thigh. He’d already downed what felt like half a bottle of Vicodin judging by the remaining weight in his pocket and it was only noon. Five hours to go, so much to do. The tasks which he so very much had to complete before the day let out were as follows: jamming to his favorite vintage vinyls in his office and ignoring patients.

It’s not until after the fight that Tommy really, truly registers all the events that just occured in the past couple of hours.Blurs of color, of yellows and blues and purples flood his vision before he’s spewing nausea and spit into the empty bucket next to his bed. His head spins as he gags, a wave of a dizzying spell infesting his mind in relentless agony. He ignores the pain stealing his chest, his ribs and everywhere else. All he can focus on is how much it hurts inside.
It’s vomit-inducing how much his head hurts after only just touching the tip of the iceberg, of grazing his fingers across the edge of the surface before he’s waiting for the bile to slide up his throat and into a waste bucket he has perched in his lap. Yellows, blues, purples— there’s orange, there’s green, pink— Tommy thinks he even sees some red down there but he doesn’t know where the fireworks end and people begin anymore.

Wilbur knew what it was like to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.From the moment he set foot inside of the training academy at thirteen, to the minute he joined his first real live hero fight and was subsequently pummeled into the ground-- he came home that day with bruises lining his torso and the biggest grin adorning his face-- but nothing was like that now. It hadn’t been like that for a while. Once you get passed the dream life, passed the "all villains are evil" mindset-- you realize how fucked up the system is.
The idea that an entire population of people were relying on you to keep them safe; the crushing dread that comes with not being able to save every single person that crosses a fight you've taken on; Wilbur knows it first hand.
He knows it like he knows how to breathe, knows it like he knows how to brush his teeth even when he forgets for months at a time. He knows how much it hurts to be a hero, and that's why he needs to save Tommy from suffering the same fate.
or: Wilbur tries to stop Tommy from stumbling into the same fate as him. It goes about as well as you'd imagine.

Summary
Contentedness as a vampire was usually a stomach full of blood, or the smell of a freshly opened wound, or the sight of a crowded city at night. Rarely did it ever consist of hugs and gentle touches.
"If I could wish for anything, it'd be to never have met you."
Wilbur wishes he could say the words hurt like a blade to the chest, but he couldn’t deny the fact that he’d been expecting them. He didn’t turn or look surprised. In fact, he only gave Tommy a low hum in response to the statement.
or: Wilbur is a vampire and Tommy is a suicidal teenager. They butt heads.

Summary
Scar opens his mouth, sobbing almost hysterically in the low light of the bathroom, and says, “Why won’t you touch me?”
It’s almost unintelligible, like he’s speaking around layers of something soft, something like foam or feathers, but Grian thinks that he would have made it out, even if Scar hadn’t managed to make a single sound.
“What?” He asks, almost unconsciously, the word baffled and confused.
“You won’t- you won’t touch me,” Scar says again, something akin to disgust in his voice. “Am I that repulsive?”

aka; grian hates touch. he hates the way that it makes him burn, the way that it leaves him questioning himself, the way that it makes him hurt other people as he struggles to be gentle. but he thinks that'd he'd do anything if scar needed him to.

Scar is steadily growing pale, and – much to the avian’s horror – he takes a few stumbling steps back. “No- Grian, are you hearing yourself? What are you talking about? Why would you kill him?”
“They’re all threats! We can’t trust them like we can trust each other!” Grian pleads, trying to fight the urge to move forwards. “I don’t- I don’t understand why you’re fighting me on this!”
“Why I’m—Grian, those are our friends! Of course we can trust them!”
“Friends? Scar, we don’t know these people! We don’t know what the game will make them do to us-!”
“-What game?” Scar cries, desperate and afraid.

aka; grian kills himself on monopoly mountain, expecting that he won't wake up again. when he does, somewhere new and strange with someone totally unfamiliar by his side, he discovers that scar is alive in this place. they reunite, and it doesn't go well :)

Ren tightens his fist enough that Grian is sure his claws are puncturing the thick wool of his jumper, as the taller man practically spits in his face, “What the hell was that, man?!”
"W-what?" He plays dumb, hands shaking.
He knows what Ren is talking about, now that they're out of the game. He knows exactly what he means.
He knows that they caught him, this time around.
Ren makes a distressed noise, something that rattles in the back of his throat like a snake lying in wait. "You were- you were talking to those Watchers! The ones that put us there!"

“Grian!” Mumbo exclaims, elated, jumping up from where he’s sat just for the sake of moving. “Grian! Look!!”
Grian makes a disbelieving noise, a trembling breath escaping him as his gaze clearly catches on the line ‘Your application has been approved,’ with ‘Welcome to Hermitcraft’ written just below it.
“Grian, they said yes!”
“They said yes,” Grian echoes after a moment, and it sounds empty.
