”Why are you really here?” Fintan asks, soft and contained enough to not quite threaten the tension hanging in the cool night air.
”I told you,” Bronte replies, equally as calculated, though he silently worries the unspoken pact between them has already been broken. “I’m making sure you aren’t causing chaos. That you’re behaving as you should.” He doesn’t meet Fintan’s eyes.
”I don’t believe that.”
(Fintan and Bronte talk for the first time in a very long while. It does not go quite as smoothly as either of them hoped, and some things come out that would not have been said otherwise.)

this is genuinely one of the best fics ive ever read from any fandom…the characterization is impeccable, the writing and prose, the worldbuilding….it’s all spectacular. i would gladly read all the books in the world if they were written like this. this fic genuinely had me squealing aloud with delight at 3 am. it’s so good. i need to reread it monthly and reabsorb it at regular intervals.
