In part, Mara feels a little bit like an idiot. She tries to rationalize her lack of care—for how he fell back into her life like an atom bomb, how he’s still so eager to go out of his way for her, how he still talks like he’s the smartest person in the room—with the fact that she’s going through something right now. She’s having the confused musings of a lost twenty year old at the ripe age of thirty-five, and if she pretends like there isn’t a wedding band strangling her finger or that she doesn’t have a toddler waiting for her at home, all of this is reasonable. Mara hasn’t done anything wrong.

Summary
(Webseries era; an irritated and inquisitive Jay decides to finally exercise the authority he’s always known he has over Matt. He kicks him around on the floor a bit and Matt cums in his pants. The end.)
Matt did well with instruction back then, not just dares and challenges. He was a surprisingly good student. Jay always copied off of him. But when they tossed their caps up on graduation day and no roadmap fell back down into their hands, both stagnated. Matt’s world stayed small, but it was all he needed. Now they were like two fleas running laps on the head of a pin, forever and a day, but would either of them really have it any other way?
Jay dissolves his miserable daydream with a shake of his head, longing to return to his work at the piano keys. But there’s Matt, on his knees, in seeming supplication for another command.

They stay on the roof until it’s dark, passing a bottle back and forth and sucking up the warm air until it runs cold. They turn through the book like it’s an ancient tome, touch their fingers against scribbled names in pencil until they smudge. Staining their fingers with something almost holy. Matt imagines a sort of sacred ritual: they cut their palms, press them flat to the pages, and then the sky opens up and angels sing their praises to the booking agents of venues all over town. Nirvana the Band will play the Rivoli, and here is the proof, written in blood, right next to Vince Valence’s chickenscratch.

He almost stammers out a nervous Hey, slow down, Birdie, but the words die in his throat. Would it really be bad to let him take it further? He clearly wants it. It's helping out a friend more than anything. Matt's personal feelings about how long and how deeply he's wanted exactly this are secondary. Tertiary, even. They're basically nothing, actually; he couldn't care less that this may be his only chance.
(Hoping to calm him down so they can plan, Matt gives Jay a little something that'll supposedly relax him. He gets a little more than he bargained for.)
