Summary
Chiaki goes to the aquarium and meets her real soulmate.
“I’m afraid of not being in my body.” Inori confesses her fear, the only thing that holds her back from the life that she wants.
“You mean dying?” Chiaki asks, looking confused. “We’re all supposed to be afraid of that.”
“No,” Inori says, before saying, “well, yes, but I meant that feeling of being outside of it. Not in my life, I guess.”
“You mean, not in control of what’s happening to you?” Chiaki asks, leaning in to speak into Inori’s ear. Her hot breath lands on Inori’s neck, making all her entire body tingle in a way that is not unpleasant, but is alien to Inori.
“Sometimes, I just fear that as I become me, there’ll be less of me.” -

Summary
After Kyora winds up in the psychiatric ward, Hakuri makes a habit of visiting him.
“Since Hakuri was a small child, his father was an authority figure to cower from, Hakuri’s lack of achievements of any kind and increasing number of shortcomings putting a target on his back. Kyora’s cruelty would cycle between vicious insults and social exclusion, Hakuri left out of family occasions, once told that he ought to have been aborted. He’d cry about it in private, but otherwise, never complained because he didn’t think anyone would care.
He never wanted to see anything bad happen to his father, but when he heard about what happened, he felt like there wasn’t a more deserving person.”

All the things we talk about when we try to talk about love.
“If she could have the specific part of her animal hindbrain that wants him electrocuted, she’d do it. She opens her eyes and looks up at him, and that familiar punch of lust grabs her by the throat.”

Summary
When a person becomes an adult, they stop thinking about what other people can do for them, and what they can do for other people.
"Iori woke up before Chihiro this morning, letting him sleep in because he gets up so early during the working week. Chihiro sat up, his head feeling fuzzy, while Iori hummed along to a pop song playing over her shitty Bluetooth speaker.
“You shouldn’t have let me sleep in,” he says, already dressed because he and Hakuri committed to helping Hiruhiko set up an art installation. Iori, who is sitting across the table from him, smiles.
“You look so cute when you sleep though.” She picks up her phone, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks. “I took a picture of you.”

Summary
As she reaches to pull down the blinds, she gazes deeply at her reflection—there is Ino and all evidence that she is a normal person.
Ino admires herself, slightly turning her back to see the reflection of her shoulder blades. She runs a hand down her hip, rubbing at the wrinkles in her dress. She tosses her hair when she changes her posturing, switching sides to observe at a different angle. Guesstimating the fluctuation of her weight.
Shikamaru catches her before she notices him walking up to the flower shop. He stops on the other side of the window, standing in her reflection, holding a brown paper bag. He scrunches his face in a teasing way and laughs, “Seriously?”

Summary
While the Chosen adjust to new lives post-Digital World, their parents learn how to move on with theirs.
"At his most magnanimous, Haruhiko used to tell himself that he chose to arrange his life this way to model the independence he wanted Sora to have. It was the sort of belief that would later help him feel less guilty for not always being home every day of the week when Sora was younger, but he also couldn’t remember many moments when she’d asked if he would be. From a young age his daughter became someone who did things on her own whenever possible, and Haruhiko is proud about this. Life isn’t fair or kind or good, so it’s only best to rely on oneself."

Summary
The human heart circulates blood throughout the body. Ostensibly it possesses intellect and collects wisdom. Thus it is capable of being broken without actually killing a person. Animals can also suffer from heartbreak. The breaky-archies Kory called it, noticing it in movies, stimulating conversation between humans. Heartbreak is everywhere on Earth as a universal vocabulary.
She hadn’t attributed it to grief though, and with grief being full of emotional movement, Kory is transported to multiple memories all at once.

Summary
One day, when Mimi runs away from herself.
"When Mimi finds something she can make hers, she doesn’t let it go without making scars of her attachments. It’s not her best quality, this manic earnestness, her desperate need to be made real and whole. To feel like her body belongs somewhere at last, somewhere that can’t deny her. It’s why she’s always the one to fall both first and harder, and rarely apologizes for it. A countdown only sharpens the intensity, no longer able to withstand her most primal desires, leaving the last of their days together an excruciating condition she is unable to either stand or sever, because at least it means it’s real, and has some meaning."
