Set during endverse, a few years before 5x04 The End. It’s been 592 days since Detroit. Dean still has hope. Cas is not yet fully fallen. And they both are not yet lost to each other. When the radio comes alive with a rogue Christmas song, they dance and open their hearts to each other in ways they haven’t before.

“Dance with me,” Cas said, that easy smile still lighting his eyes.
Dean grumbled by force of habit. He did not dance. And he was comfortable and loose-limbed, still basking in the post-coital glow. But Cas had asked for something. Cas who never asked for anything. And Dean longed to give him something, anything, after all Cas had given him.

His mother’s voice asking his father, “You got him?” Dean is four and held up in his father’s arms. And John Winchester says, “I got him.” Like it’s a given. Like, of course he always will have him, safe and sure in his embrace. Dean snuggles closer, wraps small arms around his father’s large shoulders. It’s the last time he hears his mother’s voice. It’s the last time his father holds him close.
Dean loses his home on a day in early November. Twice.

He reaches out a hand to touch Mr. Novak's belt, presses a finger to the silver buckle there.

It's Summer in Sugar Run, Florida. John has disappeared to God knows where, and Dean is doing whatever he can to make ends meet and keep food on the table.
