Summary
In which NCR Ranger Karkat Vantas meets a pair of sibling con-artists in the Mojave Wasteland. Good men are in short supply this far east.
(A purely self-indulgent Fallout AU I have been thinking about for literally months. I wrote this for me but you can read it too if you'd like.)

Summary
Dave Strider, 30, has a problem: His formerly comfortable life in New Alternia Hills has been slowly uprooted over the past three years. His sister, Rose, moved away and left him her old house three months ago. After what feels like a lifetime of trying to find a new friend group, he breaks down and lets his ridiculously wealthy twin pay for some convoluted "rent-a-friend" scheme.
Karkat Vantas, 25, needs $20,000 to pay off his student loans, and he thinks he's found a (mostly) painless way to do it. All he has to do is avoid falling for his (admittedly pretty hot) employer.
Clearly, nothing can go wrong here.

Summary
"And then there's a customized copy of PONY PALS, a gift to you on your 14th birthday from the slippery Mr. Strider. Each page contains lovingly hand-written commentary on the deeds of this intrepid young horse. Later, about halfway through the book, rather than see the gag through to the bitter end, Strider began pasting over entire pages of original text with his own completely rewritten version of the story, while keeping all the chapter titles. His revision is a tough, emotionally draining read. But it's cathartic, in all the worst ways possible.
He tends to get carried away with his projects."Note: this work is an altered book, and it plays on the physical relationship between the original pages and the edited text. As such, it's presented as a series of images. Reading the images is the only way to get the full experience, but I'm aware that some people can't/don't want to read it that way. So if that's the case, you can skip to chapter 13, which is a text-only version of the story, including rough descriptions of the most important illustrations.

Bookmarker's Notes
A fantastic Dirk character-study that does so much fun meta fuckery and had me laughing my ass off practically every time I opened it back up. Extra points for predicting all the “narrative control” themes the Epilogues explored through Ult Dirk, though this is definitely its own thing. Transformative works fuck like nothing else.
