Ilya opened his mouth to say something he had prepared beforehand — something mildly snarky, but pleasant enough it could be construed as welcoming. But all thoughts vanished from his mind when his eyes briefly flicked over Hayden’s face and found something so egregious and so delightfully ridiculous that Ilya momentarily forgot how to speak.
A huge dark piece of what looked like parsley, or spinach, or whatever greenery was stuck between Pike’s front teeth.

Shane’s words were slurred, his voice thick and discordant, providing Ilya with one very apparent fact: his husband was drunk.

It was Rose’s idea.
That’s not to shift blame on her or anything, it wasn’t a bad idea. Logically, he understood it. Finding yourself in love with your casual fling was stupid and pathetic, and “get over him by getting under someone else” is a cliche for a reason right?
