“After graduation,” Hinata continues, still watching the match, still hugging the ball. “I’m gonna go. Learn beach volleyball from the beginning, you know? Relearn everything from different ground.”
The laptop keeps playing. Brazil scores. The crowd roars through tiny speakers, but he finds Hinata turning to look at him then, grin already forming, bright and certain and so achingly sure of this reckless, impossible thing he’s decided on.“Isn’t that amazing?”
Tobio hears the sound of a perfect spike— clean, devastating, and final. The crowd goes silent.
—or, Hinata announces his plans for the future, and there is absolutely nothing Tobio can do. (Except, there is.)

Summary
Those few points Hinata scored … they had felt like such an insult at the time, even though he knew they did nothing to change the outcome. Now he wondered… had he gotten what he wanted then—an indestructible team as fast and flying as high as he could set them—they would have left Hinata without hope. Completely destroyed. Then what? Might Hinata have quit the sport completely? Would he have joined Karasuno or would he have picked a school closer to home? How would he be different if Hinata hadn’t been by his side for those three years of high school?
Sometimes Kageyama closes his eyes and tries to imagine that. He always comes to the same conclusion: Hinata wouldn’t quit, he’d show up at Karasuno ten times more annoying and only marginally less talented.
Kageyama is 21. When Hinata shows up at his door out of the blue one night, he thinks about how they used to make out in high school.

Summary

“Well, they had pretty good steak, but I don’t know if they’d have anything you would like,” Hayden says, and kicks off his shoes. He falls onto his bed with a contented sigh, then looks over at Shane, who hasn’t said anything yet. “Shane? You good?”
Shane means to say he’s fine, but what comes out instead is: “Rose is having a baby.”
Hayden sits up abruptly.
“Whoa,” he says. “You’re serious?”
“Yeah,” says Shane. “She just called me. She took three tests.”
“Been there, brother,” says Hayden, his eyes wide. Shane puts his head in his hands again.

A few weeks after Rose and Shane split up, Rose discovers that she's pregnant. Overwhelmed by the prospect of fatherhood, Shane puts off confronting Ilya about his feelings, and they never hook up at the All-Stars Game. They find their way back to each other anyway.

Summary
The Swiss National League doesn’t care about the legendary Hollander-Rozanov rivalry. When the MLH can’t negotiate with the Hockey Players’ Union in time to prevent a hockey lockout at the start of the 2015 season, the Zürich Lions jump at the chance to sign both Shane and Ilya to short-term contracts. For four months in Switzerland, they share a team, a line, a house, and a bed.
Then the lockout ends in January, and it’s time to go back. Back to different countries, cities, lives. Beds.

Lily laughs, loud and harsh. “Hollander, you are allowed to laugh! I am hilarious. And you did not notice that I flirt with you.”
The words bounce around Jane’s head, especially “flirt”—loud and clear. Her mouth goes dry, heart thud thud thudding in her chest. “I don’t think that word means what you think it means.”
“Mm, I think so,” Lily says, head tilting. “It is word for expressing interest, yes? For sex?”
Jane’s stomach twists, a familiar—but vaguely nauseating—feeling rushing through her. She doesn’t—she’s not—“I’m not gay.”

She feels it now, in the way her finger presses into his dimple and then into his lower lip, a mirror of his own nervous habit. Gansey stops breathing and for a moment Blue thinks she's really killed him, just like this, before he breathes out shakily and she realizes he's just hooked.
All of a sudden, she knows. “I want to be close to you.”
Gansey's breath stutters again. “You are. Very close to me.”
Blue huffs and shuts her stupid book, heat burning low in her belly. “Gansey. Have you heard of this thing called a euphemism?”

He waits patiently as Mike quietly changes into the pajamas he’d stored here, and only when Mike is ready to join him, does he lift the duvet, interrupting his small cocoon of warmth to let Mike in.
