Summary

Summary
Their viscous fight to win the cup ended in victory but it didn’t erase the pains and aches within their battered bodies. Sometimes one bad brain day just turns into a bit of a slump, and Ilya had been in the depths of a depressive flare up. The cup run coincided with various dates like their birthdays, and more emotionally, the anniversary of Ilya’s mother's death. Hyper-flashes of delayed grief he’d been suppressing while they channeled all their energies to the ice had hit him full force once their summer had truly begun and he had the space to sink into himself. But today was a good day, like the past few days had been. And Shane, noticing his mood shift, felt it was time to leave the house, eat some food they didn’t cook or have delivered, and take a drive somewhere special.

Ilya's been slowly working through a depression flare up and Shane’s knows exactly when it’s time to pull him all the way out of it with a date night, intimate care, and rough romantic love making. -

Can I ask you something?” said Shane
“Mhmm… what is it my little thinker?” Ilya spoke quietly, mentally pulling away from the state of half sleep he was beginning to fall into.
“I’ve been thinking about, um, you know, we talk about… sex stuff and, uh-“
“Ah this is it, isn’t it sweetheart? We have sex, yes, and we talk very sexy things often… but for a long time now you have not been this nervous to ask about something new,”
Ilya slid from Shane’s centre to his side so they could see each a bit other better,
“and I have been watching you make your scrunchie thinker face for weeks now. Waiting for you to tell me. So tell me.”
The command was soft and patient to match his gaze under the warm lamp light. A quiet moment passed by, and Shane let the words spill out,
“I want to top, if you’ll let me. It’s been a long time since we talked about it and lately I just… I can’t stop thinking about it more seriously….”

Summary
Remember when Hayden Pike punches Ilya after Shane said not to, right before the announcement of the Irina Foundation? Remember that that was the second time Hayden laid his hands on Ilya in the first month of knowing him?
Or, Shane gets rightfully fed up after the first month of Hayden's behavior towards Ilya. Punching Ilya was the final straw, so he tells Hayden to pretend he never found out. It sets off a chain of events landing him, happily, in Ottawa a year earlier and with a better support system for both him and Ilya.

“Is just the new routine, okay?” Ilya pleaded, his voice breaking. “The pills were working and now there is more stress so I just need to get used to it and will be fixed, okay?”
“How bad is it?”
“Shane, please.”
“Ilya, you promised no more secrets, no more hiding. How bad?”
He covered his face in his palms, his elbows resting on his knees, and took in a shuddered breath. “...bad.”
OR
After Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander get married, Ilya discovers that his depression won't magically disappear just because he finally has love and a real family. He gets to live and work with Shane full time now that they are on the Centaurs, but it's becomingly increasingly difficult to hide his deteriorating mental health from his husband. He's haunted by dreams of his mother and the fear that his depression and the hockey world's eruption about their relationship is ruining Shane's life. He has to swallow his pride and begin taking SSRIs, navigate the side effects of medicating his depression, and learn to accept love and support from those he loves most. Will the shame eat him alive or can he finally learn that he's worthy of love even at his lowest?
