    Summary

    (S1, Ep 4a: Repo Mantis)

Donnie is regretting his decision to remodel Cuddlecakes Puppy Rescue. As much as he loves to flex his engineering prowess, he isn't home. The unfamiliarity is a lot, and his inability to fall asleep just makes it harder to cope, and that's not even mentioning the dog that keeps following him.

...and he just might not mind that last one.

    Summary

“The developing feather is called a ‘pin feather’…The blood supply to the pin feathers often results in their alternative name of ‘blood feathers’ and if these are damaged or broken they will definitely bleed, can and will cause considerable damage to the bird and can lead to infection and permanent damage. Because the nerves are still connected at this stage, the pins are very sensitive to movement and pressure, and many birds are sensitive to handling or disturbance.”

Carnaby, T. (2008). General Behaviors; Why do birds moult their feathers?. In Beat about the Bush: Birds (pp. 360–361). Jacana Media.

It was inevitable that one of them would get injured out on the field.

Donnie still doesn't take it well.

    Summary

They hadn’t told him, but Donnie had eyes. He could observe it. He wasn’t asking for thanks or open appreciation— he knew people only did that when they wanted something more from him or wanted to hurt him. Knowing they were content without him because of his actions was all that mattered.

(He missed praise. He missed turtle piles, and pizza weeks, and movie nights where they watched his favorites and actually engaged with them. He missed karaoke and DDR and biweekly Powerpoint nights where he deliberately picked the most moronic topic to rant about like a madman, just to revel in the sound of Leo shrieking with laughter.

And God, he missed S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N, so so much. Something had broken in him when he’d found his AI chip in the rubble, unsalvageable. Something about the grief of it all had made everything feel worthless. Even if he yearned for it—that didn’t really matter anymore, did it? It was gone.)

(or: in the middle of building their new lair, donnie is cursed. not wanting to slow himself down, he resolves to keep it from his family.

little does he know, that is the exact problem that got him cursed in the first place.)

    Summary

"Exile still seems the best option, Stoick..."

Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.

Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.

They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.

AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.

Stoick the Vast and Berk watch How to Train Your Dragon...and beyond.
