Even as the weeks passed and the initial shock of the mountain dismissal began to dull, he’d reopen his wounds anew each day. He’d turn to tell Geralt a funny anecdote, or he’d ask the barmaid for an apple with his dinner before remembering that there was no horse to sneak it to. The pain he’d felt as a child was massive and overwhelming and horrific, but it was contained to that moment in time. This heartbreak, this agony was always fresh. It flayed him open every day, in ways both expected and unexpected, and there was nothing he could do to escape it. It was death by a thousand cuts, except he didn’t die.
So when he cleared his throat between songs in some tavern in Murivel and felt something fly up into his mouth, then spat a tiny golden petal into his palm, he couldn’t help but laugh. He laughed long and hard, tears gathering at the corners of his eyes. He finally calmed himself enough to catch his breath, let the petal fall to the floor, and continued his set.

Jaskier goes into heat in at Kear Morhen, struck by the humiliation of being rejected by his alpha he elects to spend it by himself and it nearly kills him. When the witchers finally find him Geralt is nearly thrown into his rut and the two have to stick it out together after two years of their broken primals longing for each other. Some of the harsh truths of exactly how broken the little bard is come to light as he clings to the only thing he views as safe during this trying time.

McCoy keeps the med bay functioning, and Spock does—whatever it is that First Officers do. They don’t talk about work (or much of anything) much, once McCoy gets his hands on Spock behind closed doors.
The most important thing that McCoy tells himself, though, is that Spock isn’t his. He’s never been his—he’s Jim’s, at the end of the day. They’re the happy ending everyone’s rooting for. He’s just a bit selfish, reaping the benefits of their occasional break ups.

Let it never be said that Jaskier is useless. Perhaps he can't wield a sword like Geralt, perhaps he can't do magic like Yennefer, but he has his own set of skills that are equally vital when it comes to winning this war.
And Jaskier was rather enjoying this role if he did say so himself. Perhaps it was a little unpleasant to have the Kings filthy hands all over him but the silks and finery, the dresses and the makeup, finally getting to put his long hair to good use, getting to shave off that awful beard he’d been sporting?
Definitely fun.
