Summary
Wei Ying uses his smile and bright laughs like a folding screen, like one of Nie Huaisang's many fans, but Lan Wangji sees. He sees the network of lightning and raised skin on the boy's back, sees his smile falter with every barbed reprimand from Jiang Wanyin and the way he constantly skirts around the border of things, as if he has to constantly know the point where he is unwanted.
He looks at Wei Ying and sees a future of squandered potentials and a brightness curbed at every turn, of a life making himself less in a Sect that would always see him as a servant's son and the reflection of their own inadequacy, and he laments that Wei Ying could not seem to see that - See past the sense of debt and false belonging his so-called family had ingrained into him.
But Lan Wangji is a patient man, and he would make Wei Ying see in time. Even if it means using the insecurities of Wei Ying's own family against him.

“Be gone!” the pile of rags yelled, leaping up. “All those who disturb the sleep of the Yiling Laozu shall face the wrath of the Burial Mounds! The Blood Pool will boil over and scald the flesh from your bones! Fierce corpses will tear you limb from limb!”
Lan Wangji startled back, coming up hard against the cave wall. The rags, seeing that he was moving towards the entrance, began waving apologetically.
“Aiya, no, don’t go!” The frayed blankets dropped to reveal a boy around Lan Wangji’s age. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I thought you were one of the Wen brothers. The Blood Pool won’t really do any of that, I promise.”
“Who … who are you?” Lan Wangji managed.
“I’m the Yiling Laozu, of course,” said the boy, with a shrug. “Who else would I be?”

After the Notpocalypse, Wei Wuxian moves in with Lan Wangji.
Well. Moves in is a bit of an exaggeration, a tall tale perhaps, stretched by Wei Wuxian’s stupid imagination and even stupider pining, but regardless. This is the thirteenth night in a row that he’s spent in Lan Wangji’s bed, curled up around Lan Wangji with their wings brushing over each other. Wei Wuxian’s entire collection of weird mugs has found a new home in Lan Wangji’s fancy wood cabinets. And, Lan Wangji’s immortal rabbits now love him half as much as they love Lan Wangji, which is really the kicker, since said immortal rabbits hate everyone except Lan Wangji.
(Or; Wei Wuxian is a demon, Lan Wangji is an angel, and somehow, stopping the Apocalypse didn't solve all their problems.)

Summary

The melody gets a little clearer when he breaks out of the trees, and Jingyi changes course with certainty, barreling down the back hill and through the Cloud Recesses, dodging scandalized disciples left and right. He throws open the doors to the Receiving Hall without announcement and bows nearly double, eyes on the floor instead of on the shocked faces of the Mei delegation and the impenetrable gaze of the Chief Cultivator.
"Forgive this disciple," Jingyi shouts, because he's going to get punished for rule breaking regardless. "From the back hill, Hanguang-jun, there is a song in the wind!"
Lan Jingyi comes of age.
