Summary
Set shortly before the fishing trip. Rocky learning about the Hail Mary’s suicide mission and watching Rocky (1976) leads him to draw a couple of conclusions about human culture.
1. Humans glorify combat and value violent entertainment of all types
2. Skilled humans can expect to be sacrificed to lonely deaths for the good of the community.
3. Sexual contact is often coercedEarth may be a harsh world, but what else did he expect from a species who not only withstand being bathed in a reactive element like oxygen at all times but actually need it to breathe? Still, the more he hears about where Grace came from, the more uneasy Rocky is starting to feel about sending his kind, goofy human friend back to that environment...

I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

"Yeah?" Dustin replies, not turning around.

Dustin doesn't let him finish. "It's fine," he interrupts him. "It's okay."
But Steve knows it isn't. The bitter aftertaste of the hateful words he's said is still lingering in his mouth. "No, just- It's not okay."
Dustin freezes.
"Eddie," Steve starts, the name ringing in his ears. "He saved your life. Our lives. And I know what he meant to you. I can't even imagine how hard it's been. But instead of just being there for you, I just..." he trails off, twisting the spear in his hands, absentmindedly. "Well, I got angry about it. I guess..."
Dustin looks at him, but he doesn't quite understand.
"I got angry, because things were different."

Watching Steve sit alone that first day- even with his ex and her new squeeze crowding his table- former King of Hawkins High with his bruised up face and puppy dog eyes, and apparently, knight in shining armor tendencies, Eddie never stood a chance.
It's Jeff, in the end, that finally badgers Eddie enough to let Steve be dragged over to their table- into Hellfire, and Dungeons & Dragons, and hopefully right into Eddie's arms- after Steve intervenes to stop Jeff being harrassed in the halls.
Now Eddie just needs to figure out what he's going to do with all of it.

“You need social interaction; everyone’s saying you’re isolating. That’s not gonna fly and you know it, so here’s your choice,” he says. “The Torch or Osborn?”
“Osborn,” Peter says.
“You forgive like a saint, Mr. Parker.”
“Save it for confession, Mr. Stark.”
(Peter loses his powers and, having stretched the limits of his body for years as Spiderman, ends up trapped in a cycle of dying and being brought back to life by the dregs of his healing factor. He needs help, but he doesn't know who to turn to when everyone, everywhere seems to be trying to save him.)

He does not know what to do with himself, frozen with indecision and shock, so taken aback by the kind hand extended to him that he cannot even process the words beyond their quiet compassion.
