Summary
Nothing good can come from getting closer to Nemik, from getting to know him. So what if the kid is growing on him? So what if, when Nemik shivers again, Skeen flips out the flap of his own coat and folds Nemik under it, tight against his chest, holding him in the warmth. Who cares that when Nemik curls around Skeen’s chest, burying his face against Skeen’s neck, Skeen’s chest goes tight.

Summary
In retaking Camelot from Morgana at the end of Season 4, Merlin let loose with his magic, ending Morgana, freeing Camelot and whoopsy sort of exposing himself to the world. He and Arthur come to an agreement that Merlin will be a court advisor to magic, and basically have to deal with any other mages in Camelot or that come to Camelot. To aid him in this task, Gwaine is assigned as Merlin's personal knight, in part because he has zero fear of Merlin's power.
Gwaine sees the stress this puts Merlin under, and decides it is his noble duty to make Merlin laugh at least twice a day.
It has nothing to do with the fact that he is madly in love with Merlin. He's just being a good friend, and fulfilling his duties to Camelot.

Gwaine is Merlin's Knight of that noone is surprised. Spot on lines and perfectly pitched humour.

Gwaine is clever and devious and will do his best to facilitate Merlin's happiness even in the face of royal boneheaded pratness.

Summary
If someone were to ask Gwaine why he spends so much time in bars, he would answer one of two things.
One, being that it’s always a good idea to be in a bar, there’s always mead, and better to die young, dumb, and drunk than young, dumb, and sober...
Number one also being the answer he gave to anyone who asked.
Number two (and the real reason) being that every important moment in his life occurred in a bar.
…
Yes.
A bar.
Strange how that happens.
Or, Merlin is Gwaine’s friend. His only friend, really, and it all started in a bar. So when Merlin asks Gwaine to go on a (definitely) deadly quest, what does he do? He goes on the quest. A horrible idea, really, and he may learn far more than anyone bargained for.

Bookmarker's Notes
Gwaine's inner monologue is everything you would expect and hope for and an absolute joy to read. And Gwaine & Freya as a chaotic, mostly clueless, but potentially powerful duo on Merlin's side is just too perfect not to love.

Summary
Merlin has, in Gwaine's appreciative opinion, an unnatural interest in armour.

It should be just kinky or silly but it's actually heart wrenchingly beautiful.
