After defeating Quirrell with the help of the greatest-pain-in-the-ass-of-all-time Merlin himself, Harry had much time to practice and make a few plans at the Dursley's. Only for him to realise, that plans are kind of overrated anyway.

Summary
In the end, Merlin finds the tuxedo cat sulking under the bed.
“Come on, you can’t keep doing this, mate,” Merlin chides as he gently drags the toneless pet from where he is hiding. The soft, plaintive mrow is a jab to Merlin's already aching heart. The yellow eyes are gunky and full of reproach and sorrow, and Merlin can feel the ribs a bit too sharp under the lacklustre fur. He gathers the sickly cat to his chest and holds him, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “You can’t go on like this. I know you miss him, but you have to eat,” he pleads as the black tail remains motionless. "It's hard enough as it is without—" he cuts himself off and hugs the miserable cat a little closer.
There's only one possible way out of this mess and Merlin hates it.

Camelot is preparing to host the annual four-day Celebration of Kingdoms, welcoming royalty, nobles, and knights from across the realm. Determined to protect Arthur from any further assassination attempts, Merlin intends to stay by his side throughout the festivities. Instead, as a gesture of goodwill, he is reassigned to serve Sir Emeric, a respected knight whose cruel and abusive treatment quickly turns Merlin's duties into an ordeal. Forced to endure Emeric's violence while concealing his injuries and continuing to protect Arthur. Although Merlin often calls him a 'clotpole', Arthur may not be as dense as he appears and is quick to notice Sir Emeric's mistreatment of his manservant.

When Merlin was actually channelling his power in a place so empty of it, every tiny bit of magic around came alive to him. So when Dragoon touched the prone body of Uther Pendragon, he pulled away almost immediately.

Arthur is still staring at the innkeeper like she’s sprouted antlers, mouth half-open in a mix of confusion and barely concealed alarm. He swallows hard, clearly trying to piece together a response. Merlin’s hand tightens helpfully on his shoulder to keep him from doing something stupid. Finally, voice cracking slightly, he manages: “Isn’t... isn’t magic outlawed?”
The woman shrugs, entirely unbothered. “Maybe where you’re from.”
