She can both build and shoot a gun with ease, and her cellphone is full of numbers for other horribly rich, famous twenty-somethings. She's as brilliant as her breeding and education suggest, and her home is regularly full of the most ridiculously attractive group of superheroes that she knows.
Being in the inner circle isn't all good things, which is hardly unexpected, as superheroes tend to draw attention both good and ill. The main problem, of course, is that Georgia Stark is unbearably head-over-heels for one Captain Steven Rogers, who lives on the floor beneath hers, politely nods his head at her whenever she enters a room, and makes enough pancakes for everyone on Sundays after he comes back from his ungodly-early morning run.

“Eyes on me.” There is a sharp satisfaction as those eyes lift immediately to meet his again. “I need your name.”
The man’s lashes flutter. “Shane, sir.”
Ilya nods and lets his hand move through Shane’s hair. It is soft, and Shane leans into the touch, eyes closing briefly as if the contact alone is enough to ground him. The response is so natural that it gives Ilya pause.
“Tell me about your limits.” Ilya doubts he is going to be close to any limits tonight, as Shane looks like he already had a pretty rough night. But he still needs to ask, good hygiene.
A small smile appears on Shane’s face, he looks at Ilya deeply, eyes not wandering away as he speaks, “There are no limit, sir.” He looks at the disbelief appearing on Ilya’s face and offers, “I’m the house slave.”
Or, Ilya didn’t come for attachment, but Shane, bruised, obedient, and unraveling, becomes the one thing he can’t leave broken.

Ilya wasn’t going to chew Shane up and spit him out at some nebulous point after he turned thirty and before he turned forty, his joints busted and his mouth full of dentures and his brain fucked to hell and back. And that marriage—his first marriage—had always come before his second, illicit shotgun wedding.
It wasn’t ideal, maybe, but that was just how things were. Hell, it was probably the same for Ilya, too. The fuck was Shane supposed to do about it? Nothing, nothing, nothing. He liked his life just the way it was. He didn’t want to do anything different. He still doesn’t. And that’s the worst, most shameful part of it all: at the end of the day, some part of Shane will always wish he could wind back time like adjusting a watch; erase that Instagram post before it ever hit the internet and go back to the life they’d had before; the life that was slowly killing them both.
