Varka puts Illuga down before running to embrace his racer, and Illuga takes that opening to escape. He doesn’t stick around for the photos, or press conference, or anything. He finds an empty closet in a random hallway in the complex and presses his back to the door, breathing heavily, shame burning through his veins.
He just dommed Lohen into getting second place in his debut race. Or, used the tactics, or - or something akin to it. Illuga buries his face into his hands and releases a horrible noise. Unprofessional, horrible, disgusting. What would his father say? What would his exes say? What was the point of his ethics course in community college if he’s going to basically mind-fuck his coworker over the mic?

Summary
Not for the first time, Illuga thinks there must be something wrong with him. Maybe he’s been possessed by the Wild Hunt. Maybe the kuuvahki is finally getting to him; one too many mandragoras, or something like that.
Either way, there has to be a reason. Why else would Illuga keep letting Lohen into his bed? Why else would Illuga allow Lohen to use his body again and again, leaving Illuga with bruised skin, aching bones, and a weary heart?
‘Friends with benefits’ is a phrase he’s heard before, and it makes sense. The life of a Lightkeeper can be cold and lonely, so it’s only natural to seek warmth and comfort from another. But Illuga never expected to find himself in such an arrangement, if what they have can even be called that. Lohen’s rough treatment offers no benefits, and they certainly aren’t friends. Illuga doesn’t even like him.
This can’t possibly be what Flins had in mind when he suggested that Illuga take up a new hobby.

While the people of Nod Krai want, Lohen is the only one who needs. Friends and strangers alike shower him in praise, status, gifts, in return for all the good work he does– Lohen takes takes and takes, and what Illuga gets at the end of the day are bites across his body. But the knight doesn’t pretend it’s anything else. His motives aren’t hidden. The exchange doesn’t come with hidden expectations. His ‘rewards’, if something so depraved can even be called as such, are something genuinely tangible, and, as ashamed as Illuga is to say it… useful. Any soothing teas or appreciation gifts haven’t quelled his mind nearly as much as Lohen’s body.
He’s real.

Illuga desperately needs a way to distract himself from the insurmountable stress in his life. Lohen desperately wants someone willing to ruin him without remorse. Predictably, one drags the other down. Only, Lohen never expects that, somehow, Illuga would become worse than him.
