    Summary

“Look, asshole, do you want a job or not?” Mikey interrupts. “You said yourself you were bored. I know you can’t afford cigarettes anymore. Until the millions of jobs you applied for decide to call you back, this is the best you got.”

    Gerard grimaces.

“Besides,” Mikey continues after a beat, “you’d get to hang out with me. And Ray and Frank too, I guess. But at least you wouldn’t be loitering at my job instead of finding something else productive to do.”

Gerard looks at Mikey for a moment before groaning and tugging a hand through his hair. “Fine, you win. Brian, can I have an application?”

    Summary

There’s an old photo, grainy, electric, legend now, of Steve Harrington with bloodied gums and a grin like a threat. His mouth is split open in something too sharp to be joy, and his eyes burn with the kind of defiance that could level cities. Like he’d set the world on fire just to prove it couldn’t touch him.

    Eddie remembers. He'd seen it.

Punk was a snarl. Punk was a fist through the drywall. Punk was angry in a way that felt like home. It howled when he couldn't speak, let him bite down when the self hatred frothed up too hot. It didn’t ask him to be okay, it dared him to be furious.

That picture, really, had redrawn the entire trajectory of Eddie's life, lit the fuse on something that had been quietly smoldering in him for years.

Pity Steve Harrington had turned out to be such a fucking sellout.

    Look. It’s not Steve’s fault. It isn’t!

It’s just that someone can only get hit on the head so many times before their brain starts cracking, and Eddie Munson is always thinking so GODDAMN LOUD.

They’re about halfway through crawl number 37, and with Dustin conspicuously absent from his usual post in the back of the Squawk van, the love of Eddie’s miserable little life couldn’t be any more transparently upset with him about it.

    Summary

Steve usually marks other chefs as off limits. Too much baggage, too much drama, but this guy? They’re not even in the same culinary orbit. Would it really be so bad to hook up with a shelter kitchen line cook who looks like trouble incarnate?

He could probably swing that. Right?

The guy purses his infuriatingly perfect lips and blows a lazy stream of cigarette smoke directly into Steve’s face.

    “You’re late.”

    Well. That’s fucking rude.
