He twitches his glasses up his nose, scrubs a hand through his hair, and says, “They can’t arrest her if they can’t find her.”

Ben Reilly would have to admit that his years were catching up to him in ways he hadn’t foreseen. After the fallout with Silvermane, Hardy, and generally getting his ass kicked before the ‘day was saved’ and they found their ‘happy ending,’ Reilly had gotten a comfortable week nursing his wounds and chumming around with his friends.
Going from zero to 100 in a little over a week was catching up to him. As such, he was not expecting to wake up one morning sick.
OR: One thing turns into another and a sick Ben Reilly stumbles his way into work, at the annoyance of his friends who need to get him back home to rest.

It was dark by the time Grace's eyes flickered back open. Night had fallen and he had no idea how long he'd been out.
"Crap," Grace muttered to himself, forcing himself to stand up as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
"Mr. Grace awake! Mr. Grace awake!" Graveler cheered and Grace's attention shifted to the xenonite barrier that separated him and his pebbles.
The majority of it was no longer see though, instead being taken up by numerous pebbles pressed up against the wall, some hanging off of edges, all staring at him.
"Uh… Why are you all still here, question?" Grace asked, stepping up to the barrier. "It's late, you should all be home."
"Mr. Grace sleep," Aron responded, stomping their tiny cobble legs as they explained. "We watch."

"Is there something wrong?” It comes out sharper than he means it to. He forces himself to lessen his grip on his chopsticks as he picks at his noodles. Stratt’s perched on the table, forcing him to look up at her, craning his neck while the lights shine down like a halo.
“Well, the sun is dying,” she says, and they both know it’s not what he asked. Grace’s noodles keep falling apart when he tries to fish them out with his chopsticks and eat.“I know that. I mean–” he has to swallow, unexpected emotions welling up, that familiar old feeling from his teenage years, his twenties, every time someone called him the wrong thing or looked at him out of the corners of their eyes with that fear, or disgust, or worse, pity. “Is there something wrong with me?”
“There’s nothing wrong with you.” Normally he would appreciate the straightforwardness, but today everything is grating on his nerves.
“You’ve been looking at me weird all day.” He stabs at the noodles again with his chopsticks. No luck.
“Grace, do you want surgery?”
Oh.

"Come on Carl, just one thing! Lokken just got her future memories! Why can't I just know one little thing." Ryland was not above whining to get what he wanted. Everyone kept acting weird once they got the time travel memories! The only explanation was that it had to do with the Hail Mary. He wanted to know why.
"You know the project is going to succeed. Is that not enough." Carl, the traitor, raised an eyebrow like he wasn't affected by Ryland's pleas.
"Ok but what do they find? What are the astronauts going to find up there that we can't replicate?" Ryland asked for the umpteenth time. They were all so tight lipped about it! If they already had the answer why don't they just implement it now, why wait almost thirty years?
Carl just laughed, again, like he always did. "You know, you'd already know that if you remembered it," he teased.
Ryland huffed. Fine then! "When I get my own time-travel memories I wont tell you everything I know, see how you like it!"
Weirdly - It was never anything normal with these people! - Carl just smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I can't wait."
OR
The Petrova Task Force travel back in time one after the other. They forgot to invite Ryland.
