Summary
“Hi,” Ilya says, his attempt at making his voice a purr lost to how fucking happy he is, to have this, to see Shane Hollander in a way no one else ever gets to. He crosses the room and kneels over him, pulling him up into a kiss that Shane gives him easily, making a sweet, soft noise that makes Ilya want to bite him with how cute it is. Instead, he gets a handful of the edge of the soft, fuzzy blanket to whip it off of Shane and replace it with his own body-
-only to be stopped when the blanket turns out to be far, far fucking heavier than he anticipated, pulling him up short when his attempt at a flick ends with barely moving the edge before it flops back down with audible weight.
(ilya versus shane's weighted blanket)

Summary
“You can go, y’know, if you want-“
“Ah, no. I do not want to,” Ilya interrupts. “Stay at home with my very sexy husband who is wearing his glasses, or go out to a club filled with people who are not you? The answer is very simple, Shane.”
Shane rolls his eyes again, but he’s smiling as he saunters towards Ilya.

Summary
Yuna Hollander loves her son, she truly does. And she is so, so proud of him, in so many ways. He makes it easy—he excels in so many things.
Emotional self-awareness is not one of those things.
Look, she knows he’s gay. David would say suspect, that she shouldn’t put labels on something that’s not hers to label, which is completely fair.
But he’s definitely gay.
Now, she just needs him to admit it to himself.

Summary
Scott Hunter does not come out after winning a Stanley Cup. Because of this, Ilya does not accept Shane's invitation to the cottage. Even without this vacation, the two of them grow closer and closer still... but without the same incentive of honesty and vulnerability.
Shane does not feel as if it is his place to argue against Ilya's green card marriage to Svetlana. How he feels about it, that is much the same. While murder-suicide might be a tad too far, Shane's desperate bid to stop the wedding may yet still be too much.
Ilya, though, is overjoyed. He does not believe Shane would have gone to such lengths, if he weren't as in love with Ilya as Ilya is with him.

This is insane and so perfect. I love this characterisation so so so much, and there is more in the comments!

Summary
When Yuna accidentally interrupts Shane and Ilya sharing an intimate moment, Ilya is completely willing to play the bad guy to control the situation. Even though he wants for the approval of Shane's parents, he will sacrifice it to establish clearly-needed boundaries. As if Shane would let him take this on alone.
Meanwhile, Yuna does not entirely realize what she had stepped into, and she is left upset and defensive. David is horrified that his wife has apparently not been heeding his many (many) warnings to text ahead of time.
One day Ilya may be the favorite son, and Shane can watch fondly as he solves puzzles and eats ice cream at his parents' house. It just takes some time and work and adjustment to get there.
