Many years after her disappearance, December Holiday returns. But she isn’t the same, and she isn’t whole. Her body is twisted by her time in the dark, leaving her all but chained to it. She and her mother need Kris’ help to return her to the way she was and thwart the Angel’s Prophecy in the process. They don’t hesitate to agree, but in order to help, they need to prepare. They need to become stronger.
These are some of the nights they spend with Dess trying to do just that. At the same time, they do their best to return some semblance of normalcy to her life.
This along with trying to keep their feelings for her, still smoldering after so many years, under wraps.
They are successful at two of those three things.

Fern is a doe and third-year Interdisciplinary Studies major at a public university satellite campus with strong progressive views, a shitbox from 2008, three ex-girlfriends, a Tweeter account with two dozen followers, and a long-standing policy on human males. The policy is reasonable. Well-researched, even. And very simple: human males are the cause of all of the world's ills, and they need to know it. A segment on ANN further inflames this policy into becoming a long-winded rant on Tweeter, not without backlash.
Then she meets Dale at a show. He knows every word to the same psych rock B-side she does, and things get a little more complicated: he's a human male.

Kris had made their peace with it. The only way to bring back Dess was to fulfill their role to its final ending. Until one fateful day, when the new kid in town came into their classroom. The dragon named Susie had made a name for herself as a menace to all, and it seemed she had chosen a favorite target in Kris themselves. But in a twist of irony, her very presence would help Kris feel something they haven't felt in some time; hope.
