He’d taken a bad fall.
He was fine.
He’d be fine. At home. In his own bed. Alone.
But as always, the universe had no problems mocking him when he was down.
Tommy had glanced up when he heard the scuff of boots at the door, his jaw clenching as the move made the nausea churn in his gut at the same time the throbbing ache in his spine pulsed in time with his heartbeat. The same heartbeat that skipped at the sight of him.
“Hey!” Tommy croaked because apparently that was what his voice did now.
Evan looked good.
“Hi,” Evan said, quiet and simple.
Tommy has a near death experience and nothing says healing quite like being taken care of by your ex you never got over.

Evan Buckley is the type of guy who seems safe and uncomplicated, and that's exactly what Tommy thinks of him when they first get together. But as their relationship progresses and Tommy gets to know the real Evan under all of the first impressions, he finds that there's so much more to him than he ever thought.

On their way to Nash's first birthday party, Margaret and Phillip's rental car blows a tire. Luckily, an off-duty firefighter shows up to help.
Phillip's smile tilts oddly, followed by his head. "I-I'm so sorry, this is going to sound strange, but do I know you...?"
"I guess I just have one of those faces," the man says, glancing Margaret's way and nodding in acknowledgment of her presence. It's unexpectedly nice. The clerk who rented them the car spoke only to Phillip the entire time.
Then he does a double take worthy of Bob Newhart. "Mrs. Buckley?"
She blinks, then gasps. He's not just familiar. "Oh! You're Ev—um, Buck's friend."
'Friend' isn't the right word. She winces a little the second it leaves her mouth, because you don't kiss your friends the way Evan did this man on Maddie's wedding day.
