    Summary

Anthony J. Crowley, retired astrophysicist and author of exactly one (1) failed book, is having a terrible Tuesday. His community centre lecture, with an audience of sleeping retirees, a knitting circle, and a man named Jim, doesn't go to plan.

Fortunately, Asa Fell, endlessly patient, is sitting in the front row. Asa knows exactly how to handle a tough crowd. More importantly, he knows exactly how to handle a highly strung, self-deprecating former academic who is currently spiraling into a scotch-fueled existential crisis.

“Rosy is lovely! She’s the nicest snake you could ask for. Snakes get a bad reputation but people don’t even give them a chance!”

“Oh, I’m sure your… Rosy… is a very nice snake. I’ve just always had… well, a thing about them. Are you… Will you be breeding food for her?”

Crowley, now sullenly tugging the box into his apartment, looked up. “Yeah.”

    “Oh.”

“Oh for crying out loud, what now?”

“It’s just… Do you really think it’s a good idea, breeding rodents in an apartment building? I mean, what if they get out?”

“That’s what this is for.” Crowley looked at him like he was an idiot. “So they don’t get out.”

    or
Aziraphale is outraged when his snake-keeping neighbor allows a rat to escape and it ends up loose in his apartment. When Crowley tries to make it up to him it looks like a relationship could be a real possibility... if only Aziraphale could get over his fear of snakes.

Basically just ~15k words of these two idiots trying to get to know each other while navigating the terrors of being known, all under the guise of rodent control.

    Summary

“Okay, look,” said Crowley, “I get the sense you don’t really like me.”
“Well…” Aziraphale considered denying it. Then he wondered why he would bother. It’s not as though Crowley had bothered with protecting his feelings. “Not particularly, no.”
“That’s fine,” said Crowley, “I can’t say I really like you either.”
What a pleasant lunch this was turning out to be.
“But that’s not important. We don’t need to like each other to work well together. I’m not proposing marriage here. It’s a creative endeavor. A business arrangement. Tell me you’ll at least consider it.”

Aziraphale and Crowley, two showrunners for rival animation studios, have recently been laid off and replaced by AI. Crowley suggests they work together instead. Aziraphale agrees. It's all purely professional.

    Summary

Out of all the omegas of eligible age, the lot that had been drawn had been Aziraphale’s—the younger son and only omega child of one of the most prominent families in their city-state. There had been much to-do over that, as the head of the family had planned to marry Aziraphale off come spring, but the lottery was the will of the gods and even such a prominent statesman couldn’t argue with it.

Muriel knew what few others did: that Aziraphale had been displeased by the arranged marriage but—as an omega—couldn’t disobey his father’s orders. He was not even free to speak his mind, was expected to acquiesce and even express thanks for such an advantageous match. “Sometimes, poppet,” he’d told her one evening in the archives, as she’d helped him clean up the brushes and inks from a day of copying scrolls, “I wish I had never presented. I shouldn’t wish to be an alpha, and be expected to train for war, but, oh, to have the freedom of a beta!”

Perhaps that was why Aziraphale seemed calm. Perhaps, for him, The Serpent was less terrifying than his impending marriage.
