He has a sneaking suspicion that their developing romance might have a detrimental impact on their efficiency with casework. The other boy must notice the way that Edwin’s gaze is riveted to his lips, because his smile gets impossibly wider and he takes a step further into Edwin’s space so that he’s stood between Edwin, still seated in his chair, and the desk. He’s careful not to jostle the microscope and its precious samples, which Edwin appreciates. Charles might be impulsive and impetuous, but he’s almost always careful about things that matter.

Whoever this was was definitely an angel. With pale skin, perfectly coifed hair parted neatly to one side, a pair of thick eyebrows, a sharply pointed jaw, and large, gorgeous eyes that looked at him with genuine concern — yeah. There was no doubt about it to Charles's punch-drunk mind: this guy had to be Heaven sent.
Crouching down, looking over Charles with clear concern, he finally spoke. "I'm Edwin Pain, and I promise, I shan't harm you."
It took a moment for the name to click. This Brit was the Edwin Pain? The one Crystal had been going on about? The one the entire school seemed to fear and loathe in equal measure? Charles had to have been more out of it than he thought, because this didn't make a lick of sense. This guy couldn't be the monster from Haunt School!

Summary
Truthfully speaking, Edwin is nearly always afraid, in some capacity or another. He can relax and laugh with Charles, certainly, but he rarely forgets the Hell-forged sword poised at his neck, ready to strike at the slightest slip up or mistake. Fear is nothing new to him.
Sometimes though, sometimes, that fear slips over into terror and his feet glue themselves to the floor. It is cruel, to be so pleased when Charles is there to jolt him free again, to delight in Charles' presence, in the midst of the danger with Edwin. But Edwin delights in it anyway.
Or: a case involving demons, dolls, and magical ghostly tortures bring Edwin's fear to the forefront, but Charles is never far behind.

Summary
Edwin is sacrificed as a virgin sacrifice, and the reason for his fate is his “unnatural” feelings for males. It is safe to assume that the demon he has been sacrificed to is a demon of Lust.
Instead of dying later on, Charles finally breaks under his fathers abuse, and murders him. Finding purpose in taking out child abusers across the country, he goes on a killing spree. When finally caught and sentenced, he is sent to hell for committing the sin of Wrath.
(aka, since Edwins bullies sacrificed him for being gay, I guess it would make sense they sacrificed him to a demon of lust. Makes sense to me. Charles just snaps way before anything else happens in this one.)

I have had the pleasure of downloading this fic and reading it over the course of about 3-4 days. The amount of things I wish I had written down to say about this fic is too grand. Though let me say this, I’ve never been more happy, more GAGGED, and just over all emotional than when reading this.This has pushed my sleep schedule to the brink. Going from page 70 to page 166 in a single night! So many moments so many emotions so many just feelings in general
I’m also proud to say that this has reached one of my saved quotes
“Charles hugged his mother tight and noticed – not for the first time –, that she was starting to feel very small in his arms.”
Mainly because, my eyes genuinely filled with tears so fast upon reading this. Every moment with Charles and his mother had me wanting to cry. This however, this feeling was deep, my tears were quite literally—and for the first time ever—burning.
The difference between Charles and Edwin’s pov’s had me whirling from emotions. At one point I remember thinking, “can we please go back to Edwin so it didn’t hurt so much?” Oh no, it does not work like that. I was then hit with Edwin’s pov and dear lord. The amount of revelations and just everything that went into these chapters truly had me astonished.
I’m like genuinely baffled. Flabbergasted. Amazed. Teary-eyed. Hurt. In overall awe of this glorious fic that my eyes had the privilege of laying on.
This is coming from a place so deep inside me I can’t find it in me to laugh at the moment. (Something this fic had torn from me many times, despite not being the type to laugh out loud at a fanfiction.) When I say, that I was visibly shaken when reading this, everything I am saying is not a lie. I had truly thought about this fic non-stop. Had been waiting to clock in, thinking to myself, “fuck. I’m leaving at the best part.” And isnt that something? Because truly, there wasn’t any “best part.” It just kept becoming more amazing and words cannot describe the level of peak I had read. There truly wasn’t a best part, because the whole fic was already stuck quite literally at its peak.
There wasn’t a dull moment in this fic that made me want to take a break or read something else. Nothing but the constant need to keep reading, and that is truly important. Listen, my dyslexia and poor attention span is poor enough. However, the need to continue reading so many words and chapters despite the very busy few days, was never greater. I truly did not want to leave such great writing behind.
This is coming from a place a person who does not like Alternative universes who had saved this fic for long and was so scared to start. Who once they started reading, could not put this piece done. Truly amazing. Thank you author, for writing.

Since they'd fallen out of hell, the Night Nurse slamming the door on the awful baby doll demon behind them, Charles had been itching to touch Edwin. And it wasn't like his usual touch-oriented personality just wishing to have some sort of contact. He could control that easily enough after all this time.
No, this was something different.
This felt like a desperation. A need to be in Edwin's personal space, to keep his hands on him. He wanted to wrap his best friend in a hug and never let go, he wanted to sit as close as possible as they heard a new case. He wanted to take Niko’s place as she grabbed Edwin's hand to drag him to watch another one of her shows. He wanted to tuck Edwin against him as they sat on the couch. He would wrap an arm around Crystal and wish it was Edwin, who was merely across the room.

After Hell, Charles is terrified of letting Edwin out of his reach for fear that he might get taken away again. He is, of course, being very subtle in his attempts to keep Edwin close.
