Summary
Kaeya kept himself behind a carefully constructed wall so that no one would ever become too close to him and get burned like Diluc did ever again. Seemingly transparent, yet unreachable in reality. When he's ambushed out in the wild and finds the breath fading from his lungs, he thinks that it's almost not too bad. As long as Mondstadt is safe and Diluc is happy...what's the problem?
And then he wakes up. Younger than he should be, different, and everyone who sees him looks like they've seen a ghost because Kaeya of House Ragnvindr died fending off the drake that should have killed Crepus. Diluc and Crepus refuse to let go of him now that he's appeared to rise from the dead. Kaeya is different from what they remember - he pushes people away, or tries to - but neither his sanity nor his resolve can keep up his guard around his own family.
What's going on? Why is everything different? Why has his life completely changed?
Maybe none of it matters. Maybe the only thing that matters is the fact he can start over and fall blindly back into the warmth and care he thought was gone forever. His father, and Diluc...who feels more deeply for him than he ever would have thought.

"What made you think that I would agree to go along with this little plan of yours?" The question is asked in a pompous tone, but Ardyn's posture remains relaxed. It's clear that he's fishing for information, trying to figure out the goal of Noctis' game before showing his hand.
Noctis stops to admire the salvia flowers, shrugging his shoulders before finally admitting, "I just thought that this would be more interesting for the both of us."

“You know, Mondstadt has perfectly serviceable jail cells,” he said, his fingers absentmindedly venturing over his various bruises as he spoke. “I don’t see why you had to lock me in the basement.”
Diluc raised his head and regarded him coolly. “You are my responsibility. I’ll do with a traitor what I see fit.”
A traitor. He’d accused Kaeya as much during the fight, but it was so much worse hearing it stated calmly and factually.
“And what is the plan, exactly?” he asked, showing not a hint of his internal discord. After a lifetime of deception and lies, it was second-nature for him to conceal his feelings. “Are you going to be my executioner? Or are you intending to give me a life sentence?”
Diluc subdues Kaeya following his confession and locks him in a room while he tries to figure out what to do with him. Kaeya learns what he loves, what he fears, and that the two can co-exist.
