    Instead of being murdered at Stone Wave Cliffs, Gustave is, unbeknownst to the rest of the expedition, taken captive by Renoir instead. But Renoir has no interest in hostages, no. Gustave's place in his household is that of a beloved pet, spoiled rotten, if he behaves. And Gustave has every reason to behave, if he wants to keep Renoir's attention from wandering back to his friends and younger sister.

    It does not help that Renoir's children are living in the same manor. Alicia is gone often enough that Gustave does not have to worry about her. But Verso? Gustave knows trouble when he sees it.
