Summary
The witch covens of Teyvat had always respected the rules between covens. Like once a new or a suspected witch or warlock was taken in by a coven, the others could not try to take them away. This was to avoid war and to avoid humans discovering them.
For thousands of years, the rules were respected. But when new types of witches were discovered, some of the most ancient covens seem to be forgoing their sacred rules in the face of hubris... Something needed to be done to prevent a war.
This was all well and good, but Aether really just wanted to make ends meet when he took this job, and maybe take the time between his semesters to think about what career he really wanted to have in the future.

Summary
Jason's wisdom teeth grew back after the Lazarus Pit. Annoying, but fixable with a quick trip to the oral surgeon.
Running into Bruce and Tim at said oral surgeon's office? Less fixable.

"—and how is that even POSSIBLE?" He recognized the voice immediately. Tim. And he sounded... not good.
Jason should have left. Should have just aborted the mission and come back another time when Tim wasn't around. That was the smart play. The tactical play. But curiosity was a bitch, and Jason found himself moving toward the sound instead of away from it. He peered around the doorframe and saw Tim in his office, pacing like a caged animal with at least five empty coffee cups scattered across his desk. The kid looked like he hadn't slept in a week. Maybe longer.
