Summary
Sometimes life is about making the right connection with the right person at exactly the right time. Finding Bobby after his relapse following the plane crash and deciding to step in and support him is precisely that kind of moment for both Hen and Buck. For Hen, it brings clarity about how to deal with Eva pushing herself back into her life, and for Buck, it brings friendships and support he wasn’t even aware he needed.

"Yeah", Chimney says: "I kinda really hoped Hen would take the promotion, but you were right earlier. She has to do what's right for her. And maybe I do want to try this again. I guess I'll think about it some more, talk it over with Maddie, talk to some people from the LAFD."
"You could ask Deluca about it", Buck comments: "You worked with him too, right? He's a Captain at the 122 now. Only met him once through Tommy, but he'd probably be able to give you some pointers. I got the impression he's not one to hold back his opinions."
Chimney laughs at that. "No he does not. It's what got him kicked out of this firehouse actually. Talking to another Captain, hearing what he thinks about it is a good idea though. Gotta figure out what's right for me, right?" Buck smiles again, but before he can say anything Chimney continues: "Speaking of which, what possessed you to think transferring out of here was a good idea?"
Buck freezes for a moment then blows out a long breath.
Or: After Chimney's speech and after their shift is over Buck finds Chimney on the rooftop. They talk about life, about change and about promotions.

He needed help. He needed to think. He needed to talk. There was only one person he could trust to answer the phone when he called and it was terrifying to call him now because what if he didn’t answer this time? What if this time, he didn’t have any left to give, he was busy, he wasn’t looking to do Evan Buckley another favor? But who else was there? He needed to talk and yeah, maybe somebody else would answer, but who else would listen, patient and quiet, while Buck tried to harness all of his thoughts into one line?
If Tommy didn’t answer, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. The end of the world already happened. The world was ended. Turn off the lights folks, the party’s over.
Buck called before he could lose his nerve.
