Kuroo just shrugged, not saying very much at all. Nobody would know it from the kid he was then, but he’d become someone completely different.
Kenma continued the setup of the game, “My parents told me you were gonna be a pretty girl, but I think I already prefer you much better. I don’t know what to do with girls.”
“My mom says you do the same stuff as you do with boys,” Kuroo said without any hesitation, “she said that soulmates are just the universe assigning you a best friend.”
“Really?”
“Mhm,” Kuroo nodded.

OR, Kenma and Kuroo are soulmates and meet as children but don't carry out the whole soulmate thing until much, much later.

Oikawa’s week had been wonderful. Perfect, even. Practice had gone well, even though Mad Dog-chan had been there. Iwa-chan had been nice to Oikawa. The first years had listened to him. And on top of all that, he’d understood all the material in his classes with ease. Truly perfect.
