Summary
Kaeya was a master at putting up a polished front at all times, even when intoxicated. Certainly, he still seemed pleasant enough when Diluc found him. Just a little boisterous, oblivious to Charles's gentle hints that last call had already come and gone quite some time ago. Diluc knew Charles would have fared better with another patron. But again, Kaeya could always manage to use his own charisma to his advantage. And from Charles's perspective, Kaeya was still fairly lucid; just slightly rowdier than usual. There was no need to treat the esteemed Knight as if he were some blacked out lush.
Diluc, however, knew better.

They were drunk. Were they drunk? Was he drunk? Because Kaeya had the feeling his guests had been talking to him for a while now, but none of their words had made any sense whatsoever.
That was, until Venti stepped firmly in front of Kaeya’s desk and set his hands on the top, the better to lean over towards Kaeya and say: “For the end of the Windblume festival, Sir Kaeya Alberich, we’re going to auction a date with you.”

Kaeya shakes his head, smiling, and leans back in to press his mouth to Diluc’s jaw. “Wouldn’t mind being burned by you, Luc.” His tongue teases a spot just underneath Diluc’s ear. “If it’s you, it’s okay.”
(Kaeya and Diluc finding their way to each other as teenagers, and then again for a second time many years later.)

As strings blend into woodwinds, Kaeya’s elegant bow is met with a regal incline of her head. Their hands settle into place with the gentility drilled into them as children.
That façade shatters a split-second before their cue when Kaeya’s most devilish smirk flares. He sweeps Jean through the first rotation with as much overblown flair as he can muster. Jean’s laughter bubbles around them.
Pinned behind the bar, Diluc can do nothing but watch.
———Diluc’s prepared to spend the rest of his life ignoring the gaping hole he’s carved into his chest and his life. But as the night wears on, it grows harder and harder to remember why he keeps himself so aloof from those who matter most.
