Summary
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes have been best friends and inseparable since they were 2 and 3. They laced up their first pair of skates together, stepped on the ice for the first time together, and have been subsequently there for each other during every milestone. They planned to be drafted to the same team, live in the same apartment, adopt a dog together, and spend their entire careers together. It's everything they've known, after all.
The NHL, however, has different plans.
And now everything has shattered and Steve is slowly losing his mind and his best friend.

Another pause. Then, quieter :
"I don’t even know why I’m telling you this."
He gave an unconvincing chuckle.
The vulnerability in Bucky's voice stirred something deep inside Sam.
Or
Sam returns to his childhood home to face the dust of the past. Bucky arrives as the sun fades, and in the quiet that follows, memories and unspoken feelings rise gently between them.

Sam Wilson's fugitive life, post-Accords: taking refuge in a kingdom that might as well have been magical, in a sprawling palace set against beautiful mountains and jungles, where there was a handsome man cursed and trapped in a deathly sleep in a glass coffin, and a kind and just king who was working to heal him, and a stalwart warrior from a far-off time who wouldn't leave his cursed friend, and, hell, Sam even knew a witch. Surely Sam could be forgiven if his thoughts turned to fairy tales and Disney movies.
Bucky's kind of like a Disney princess. Sam would maybe like to be Prince Charming.
