    Summary

He moved to extricate himself but Mydei’s hand on his shoulder tightened and another grasped his arm about to push away from the earth. The pleased glow upon his features had dimmed and the shrewd edge had returned, bringing suspicion with it.

“We’ve laid together many times in the past,” Mydei said bluntly.

Phainon chuckled and hoped the mirth covered his nerves that came from Mydei striking with unerring precision. “And there’s a much more comfortable cot for us to lay in at home,” he responded obtusely.

“The look of the fool doesn’t suit you. No matter how many times you choose to wear it.”

His mouth parted; soundless before it closed again without spewing any of his foolish diversions. “So you noticed.”

Mydei stared, unimpressed. “It’s hard to miss your refusal to go as far as heavy petting. It’s a bold change from your past enthusiasm.”

It’s been months since Amphoreus was safely stored away in the Eternal Page, which is enough for the harvest season to arrive in Aedes Elysiae. Back home for the first time, and with Mydei at his side, Phainon’s hesitance unravels in the wheatfields beneath the stars.

    Summary

Phainon laughs, holding both hands up in surrender when Mydei shoots a glare his way. “It’s not like you to be caught off guard that easily, Mydei. Was the story about us really that engrossing? You even stayed away from your usual hiding spots to stay in the infirmary…”

Mydei bites his tongue at the honest answer that wants to spill from his mouth. He says, “It’s a well-written story.”

    “Is it one of Castorice’s?”

    “...”

Phainon and Mydei are classmates, and Mydei would say they're fairly close. Even Castorice—another classmate and friend—thinks the same, based on the stories she writes of them.

A certain someone seems to disagree, though.

    Summary

"And?" He asks tiredly, manages to make a circle in the air with his hand before it flops back down to the ground uselessly. "I'm willing to bet anything that I've loved you since our first real meeting, even if I cannot recall it."

Mydei considers him carefully for a long moment. An unreadable look crosses his face before he shakes it off. "You are hopeless," he says quietly.

Phainon smiles, a smaller but no less genuine expression. Mydei's gaze snaps to his lips, and Phainon revels in the knowledge that his eyes haven't left him once, even after their battle ended. He hums happily. "Perhaps so."

or; Phainon loses his memory, and is convinced he is dating Mydei. Upon finding out he isn't, he makes attempts at courting.

    Summary

Phainon caught his eye, an unexpected intensity captured in his gaze. One step closer– one foot away now. Warm fingers and soft leather found Mydei's back, drifting too close to his weak spot for comfort. He swallowed hard.

    Phainon didn't know– he couldn't.

    Summary

They simply sat in silence as Mydei’s thumb brushed over Phainon’s hurrying pulse point. Upwards. He pressed the centre of his palm and his fingers twitched in response, half-closed before opening again. He dragged his thumb across the callouses at the base of his fingers and then the ones along each finger from years upon years of holding a sword.

Mydei’s fingertips pressed against his own and glided downwards, sliding over each calloused bump and drifting into the gaps between Phainon’s fingers without intertwining but so, so close.

    “We should eat.”

Phainon’s hand lurched but Mydei splayed his fingers to hold him down as his eyes narrowed, sharpening, akin to a predator that caught the scent of bleeding prey.

He leaned closer to pin him with the weight of his hand and stare. “Unless there’s a reason you’ve been avoiding food like its poison.”

In the Eternal Page, Phainon’s body has been completely restored to enjoy peaceful days without the threat of death and destruction looming over Amphoreus. There’s just one problem and it doesn’t go unnoticed by the other Chrysos Heirs.
