Esme wilts, the evidence of his exhaustion so starkly laid bare that he can’t deny it anymore. “Okay. Maybe I am overworked… maybe I don’t know how to relax.” His voice is quiet, almost ashamed.
“Lucky for you,” Arthur says, his voice taking on that familiar husk. “I have several ideas.”

Aoi raised her hands in surrender. “I know. I'm not trying to prove you're dating the Drifter. I just got the vibe that you might. That's all.”
He stared at his food. “Well, I'm not.”
Silence descended upon them. Far from relaxing him, it only served to wound him up tighter. He knew when a storm was coming; the wait was, in his humble opinion, worse than the destruction it wrought.
Thankfully, Aoi didn't leave him to his misery for long.
“But you do like them,” she said.

“So you’re still hiding that shit, huh?”
Chase looks at Robert seriously, like he doesn’t get why Robert’s still doing it. They both know the biggest reason is fifteen years dead. If Robert wanted, he could let loose. Stretch them out. Not hide beneath layers and layers like he’s ashamed.
That’s just not who Robert is. He shrugs.
