“I don’t need an occasion to drink with a friend, do I?” Wriothesley chortled. He raised his glass and clinked it against Neuvillette’s with a wide grin. “Cheers, Monsieur.”
Ah… a friend?
As Neuvillette gulped down the wine, he felt something bubbling up in his chest like fizzling champagne. Yes, Wriothesley was a magnificent friend. Honest and loyal to the core. Just like himself.

“No!”
For a man of his stature, Wriothesley crosses the room at impressive speed. One hand clamps around Neuvillette's wrist, and the other snatches the note away just before it can fall to its burning demise. There's nowhere for Neuvillette to retreat— not unless he wants to take the note's spot in the fireplace— so he just braces himself on his feet as he parses Wriothesley's irate expression.
“What the hell are you doing?” Wriothesley demands as he straightens. “That's evidence.” He holds the note up and away, as if he's expecting Neuvillette to grab at it like a child whose toy has been confiscated.
“Evidence of what?” Neuvillette asks, astonished by the display of fervor from a man known for turning polite nonchalance into an art form. “It's not a crime to send a letter.”
“Letter?” Wriothesley growls. “I think you mean threat.”
Neuvillette receives a threatening letter, and Wriothesley makes some threats of his own.

“What would you have me presume?” Wriothesley asks, half paying attention.
“That I am your lover.” Neuvillette says with little explanation.
Wriothesley blinks, “I’m sorry?”Wriothesley is picky with his guiding due to his history, infamous for having gained his esper abilities from killing his parents, ordinary guides are hesitant to get near him, but a dungeon breaks in the center of the Court of Fontaine and no one but Wriothesley has the skill level to enter it and survive.

Neuvillette cleared his throat, his gaze averting. “Ah. My apologies. It was not my intention to worry you. The judge meant to preside over this trial had a shortcoming, and I was the only one available to step in. It couldn’t wait either—again, my apologies.” He awkwardly adjusted his clothes. After a moment of guarded silence, he added, “I had intended to… propose something to you, but I fear it must be postponed, if that is amenable to you.”
Concern slipped away from Wriothesley’s face, replaced by warm curiosity and a sly curve of his lips. He stepped closer, eyes glinting with mischief. “Propose something? What, like a date?”
A faint stammer escaped before Neuvillette could stop himself. “N-Not quite. But something like that, yes.”
Neuvillette prepares a little surprise for Wriothesley but his work gets in the way.

“Is there a reason you never want to spend your ruts with me?” Neuvillette asks, so direct that he catches Wriothesley utterly off guard. “Is there some fault with me?” Neuvillette asks softly.
Wriothesley’s head snaps back up. “No,” he says. “No, Neuvillette, not at all. It’s… a fault with me.” He rubs his jaw, forcing himself to meet Neuvillette’s eyes even though he wants, very badly, to look anywhere else. “I’m not… When I’m in rut, it’s…” He drives both hands into his hair, holding it back from his face and closing his eyes. “I’m not good,” he finally says, dropping his hands and hanging his head.
Wriothesley has always struggled through his ruts alone, terrified he will hurt a partner, but Neuvillette refuses to let him suffer alone.

The tip of his tail thrashed in the water, his slit almost impossibly slick. The dragon’s coils moved over his skin, over one of his nipples, and he let out a low moan as sharp fangs brushed curiously over one of his ears, the dragon snorting softly into his thick black hair.
“Please,” Wriothesley found himself moaning, clutching the dragon’s tail tighter.

Days earlier, Neuvillette had sensed his clutch forming, and Wriothesley had spent ample time between lean legs, offering him nothing but worship and love, in the form of fingers and tongue.
“It seems so.” A gentle laugh. Neuvillette brings himself to his elbows. “But we will manage. You remember how we handled my last heat?”
- With Wriothesley now a fully fledged dragon after bonding with Neuvillette, he faces his first true heat cycle, while Neuvillette's is triggered in turn. Together, they navigate the changes to Wriothesley’s body, while expecting clutches.
