Kate met her gaze, her expression cold and unyielding. She shrugged, the motion almost dismissive as she tightened her grip on her bow. “I’m sorry, Miss Belova,” she replied, her tone flat and resolute. “But she took mine, and I plan to finish the job I was given.”
Without another word, Kate turned away, her determination unwavering, leaving Yelena to watch as she walked down the path of no return.

The voice was rich, leathery, and smooth, a controlled belt from the chest of the woman on stage. Mira imagined she could see the concentration in the woman’s closed eyes and furrowed brow, if the stage lights weren’t hitting her from behind, shrouding her in a golden silhouette.
