He’s done being the spare, the soldier, the tool. And the only person who notices that he’s drowning?
Kon.

Summary
Timothy’s body was nothing but a byproduct of violence and death. The pit healed his wounds but left scars that burned worse. He was ugly, he knew, but it hardly bothered him. Ugly things were real and permanent. They marred the world, left their mark wherever they went. It was not his ugliness that unnerved him. It was his simplistic mind that he was ashamed of.
His body was broken but his mind was carved empty. He’d been brilliant once, he was sure. Sometimes Ra’s told him stories of his past intelligence, of the times when he called him Detective. Timothy listened to those stories with childish envy, unable to comprehend how the person Ra’s spoke of with such pride had been him.
Sometimes, he thought the Bat might love him. Then he would remember that he wasn't the one he looked at with such soft eyes and he'd think of the Tim that the Bat wanted with such visceral hatred that he scared himself.
or
Timothy forgets. Ra's lies. His family is there for him, come hell or high water.

Summary
In one universe, Tim finds out Batman's secret identity and tells nobody. In this universe, Tim finds out Batman's identity and tells his parents everything.
Or:
"That's great, Timmy, but talk me through your thought process, okay? I don't see how this would tell you Batman's identity," Jack says. Tim nods, and he looks even more excited. Well, he always liked to talk about his interests. Janet just wished he picked ancient history or mythology instead of crime-fighting vigilantes, like any respectable child. Not that she would ever tell him that. But there are superheroes who are connected to history—the culture of the Amazons is something Janet would love to study—that would be a fine compromise, an intersection of the interests of the whole family, but no, Tim prefers the ones who dress up as a bat."Only a few people can do a flip like this! Like three or four on the whole world, and most of them are old, like twenty, and live in Russia." Tim stops here, looking at them for reactions. Both of them nod, and it satisfies him. Dick Grayson lives in Gotham, though, and if he's Robin, which he must be, then it means Batman is Mr. Wayne!"

Summary
“Where is your pack, puppy?” Batman says, voice gravely. The underlying growl of his tone makes Jason chirp, another instinctive cry for his Mama. But she isn’t coming, she can’t, not when it’s Jason’s job to take care of her. His Dad said so.
The growl that billows out of Jason’s throat is more akin to a whine than anything resembling an actual threat. It does nothing to deter Batman from drawing closer, stepping between Jason and the Batmobile. “I’m not going to hurt you,” he says, an obvious lie. Jason’s eyes flick around the alley, searching for an escape that isn’t there.
“Stay back!” Jason hisses, holding up the tire iron in a weak attempt at a threat.
—
Jason knows what death is but he doesn’t understand.
—
Or, when Batman catches Jason stealing his tires, he lets him go. When Jason makes it back home, his mom won’t wake up.

But it's also the closest he'll ever be to Tim again.
Losing his mind doesn’t seem like such a bad price to pay— if it means Tim stays by his side just a little longer.
