It is the weirdest shit. He has to duck out of practice because his nose starts bleeding twice in one week and he wakes up in a hotel in Columbus with another one that leaves stains on the pillow. On the flight back to Ottawa, Hazy drops into the seat next to Ilya midflight and asks, "This isn't, like, a cocaine thing, right?"
Ilya laughs so hard it's probably a little rude.

“So,” Michael starts, smiling, and it only means one thing: trouble.
Stephen presses his eyes closed.
Wonderful. Fantastic. Of course.
“A butt plug?” Michael says, wiggling his shoulders at the word. “That’s kinky.”
Stephen contemplates his own death as he stares at the blue sling keeping Michael’s arm in place. Preferably something quick, merciful. Something that happens before Michael says the word kinky again.

“Oh Michael, yes,” Michael says, stepping closer.
or: Stephen has spent twelve years seeing Michael’s disasters before they happen, eight of them quietly in love with him. Then the Pepsi shoot shows him Michael on fire together with the certainty that he will not stop it on time — that is until the impossible happens for less than a minute. Long enough to save Michael from a worse ending and completely expose part of the one secret Stephen never meant to let him know about.
