NOTE: Due to RL this work was originally on hiatus until May 2020, but then there was a global pandemic and personal tragedy. I still have tons of notes to bring this to a close, but am behind where I'd hoped to be before COVID. The last chapter here isn't a cliff-hanger, and even has a bit of a resolution, but there is still story to be told. I'm not sure when I'll be able to write and post again. My new plan is not to post anything more until the whole bloody fic is DONE. To which end, cheer leading welcome and patience appreciated! :)

Summary
On the last day of school before Christmas vacation, Mr. Castiel Quinn discovers that one of his young students has smuggled male pornography into the classroom. Upon being told that the photos belong to the boy's uncle, Castiel vows to himself that he will keep the other man's preferences a secret. It's 1947; a man experiencing attraction to another man or fantasising about his sexual touch are transgressive faults, which could potentially result in imprisonment - or worse. But then the uncle walks in. The photos are of him: Dean Winchester, a rogue with an empty pocket and a child to feed. Castiel doesn't know it yet, but his life is never going to be the same again. Years pass between chance meetings, but even though they live their lives apart, Dean and Castiel's story is proof that absence truly does make the heart grow fonder.

He rubs both hands over his face and shuts his eyes, trying to imagine a world where he doesn't want to curl up and die daily because he's so completely in love with his best friend.
He tries to be supportive. Honestly, he does, but after fifteen years of watching the man you love date and sleep with more women than you can count, being supportive becomes pretty damn hard. He loves Lisa, and if it wasn't for his own feelings, he would probably be thrilled that Dean wants to marry her - he would be the one sitting up with her planning the wedding when Dean's had too much of the 'girly shit.'
The thought alone makes him wince.
